note: This part is not recommendable for kids and people with weak nerves.

These photos are just samples of some typical melanoma cases in different phases. As the melanoma develops from melanocytes it could appear anywhere where are melanocytes. The melanocytes are not only in the skin. The melanocytes could be found in the eyes, in the inner ear, bones etc.

As we already see there are some signals to detect skin cancer. Sohere you can see an example of abnormal mole:

Abnormal Mole

As you can see this is an asymmetrical mole with different colors and size bigger than 6mm

In the early stage melanoma does not look scary of disgusting. It just looks like a strange spot or mole.

Early stage Melanoma

In this stage the melanoma is curable. That is so important to check your moles regularly.

As we already said the melanoma could appear anywhere where are the melanocytes. This is an example of melanoma in the eye

Melanoma in the eye

Melanoma could appear also in the mouth. It is not unusual to have a mole on the lips or even in the mouth.

Melanoma in the mouth

There is a simple approach to perform a self-exam of your moles. Remember that the most of the moles are benign moles. The only method to detect the melanoma early is to check regularly your moles.

Melanoma is the most deadly skin cancer. An estimated 46,000 Americans will develop melanoma every year, and 7,700 Americans will die from melanoma every year. And because of that it is important to know how to recognize the early warning signs of melanoma.

The rule is simple and it is called ABCD rule

A for Asymmetry: One half of the mole does not match the other half in size, shape, color or thickness

B for Borders: The edges o of the mole are ragged, scalloped, blurred, or poorly defined.

C for color: The color of the mole is not one and the same throughout or it has shaded of tan, brown, black, red, white or blue.

D for Diameter: The moles greater than 6mm are rather possible to be cancerous.

Be careful and look for any changes in the mole. For the best use some check moles tool.

Everybody has at least one mole. The moles are so common and if you look at your skin I’m sure that you’ll find one. Some people are born with moles. These moles are called birth spots or congenital nevi. About one per cent of the babies were born with a mole. The new moles appearance peaks in puberty and slows with the age.

Moles Origin

Moles (the doctors use the term nevi) are benign tumors. The fault for the moles has one type of skin cells called melanocytes. The melanocytes make the pigment melanin. The science does not understand why some melanocytes make a heaping and develop into moles. It is sure that it is linked to genetics and sun exposure.

How the moles appear

The moles are not one and the same. The common mole can be different colors – black, brown, flesh color, red or pink, and even blue. The moles could be raised with a little stalk or flat, round, oval, or irregularly shaped. The mole can has an even distribution of color or be multicolored.
There are some circumstances that could cause an increase the size and pigmentation of moles:
• During the adolescence with the puberty
• For women the pregnancy is a period with great hormonal changes and could affect the moles
• Sun light contains UV radiation and the sun exposure is one of the most risky factors

Connection between the moles and skin cancer

The skin cells of some moles some times could change into skin cancer. The most dangerous type of skin cancer is the melanoma. The moles that can change into melanoma are abnormal and are called dysplastic nevi. Dysplastic nevus has a higher chance of developing into melanoma. It is very important to know how to do a mole self-examination. Because this is the only chance for early melanoma detection.

How to do a Skin Self-Examination

You should check your moles frequently. Usually at the beginning of each season. A lot of doctors recommend the free Check Moles List so fond a copy of it and use it.
